Joao is a dual-qualified lawyer (England and Wales, Chile) specialising in commercial and investment treaty arbitration. He has a civil and common law background and has worked in arbitrations under ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL and LCIA rules.

Expertise

Joao has advised clients in disputes in a range of sectors including transportation, energy and construction, under major arbitration rules. He has a civil and common law background and has experience handling disputes in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Joao’s previous experience also includes commercial litigation, regulatory disputes and white-collar crime.


Career

Joao is admitted to practice in England and Wales and Chile. Before joining Stewarts, he practiced in a leading dispute-resolution-only firm in Chile gained experience in top-ranked disputes firms in the United Kingdom.

Joao obtained his law degrees in the United Kingdom (LLM, UCL) and Chile (LLB, Universidad de Chile).
