Since 1990, Stewarts has supported a wide range of charitable causes. In 2010, the Stewarts Foundation was established to formalise and manage the firm’s charitable giving.
In 2025, the partners of Stewarts donated more than £1.1 million, including Gift Aid, to the Foundation. The year also marked a significant milestone, with total donations since the Foundation’s inception exceeding £10 million and benefiting more than 260 charities.
Our vision
The Foundation is committed to:
- Creating opportunities for disadvantaged individuals
- Supporting those less fortunate with compassion and respect
- Delivering meaningful social impact.
To maximise impact, the Foundation supports a limited number of UK charities selected by its Trustees through a focused grant-giving programme. Eligible organisations must have an annual income between £1 million and £50 million.
Grant giving priorities
In 2025, the Foundation refined its grant giving approach across five key areas:
- Alleviating poverty and homelessness
- Enabling access to justice
- Supporting health and disability
- Providing educational and social mobility opportunities
- Supporting relationship breakdowns.
Partnership with Felix
The Foundation has committed substantial support to Felix, London’s largest food redistribution charity, over a three-year period. This sustained funding helps the charity rescue surplus food and deliver it to organisations supporting people experiencing food insecurity across the capital.
This long-term partnership reflects the scale of the challenge. An estimated one in seven people in the UK experience food insecurity, including around three million children. By supporting the work of Felix, the Foundation is helping to tackle hunger while reducing food waste.
2025 grants
In 2025, the Foundation supported a range of charities aligned to its priorities, including:
- BAILII: Supporting the expansion of free public access to legal information
- Future Frontiers: Providing young people from low-income households with career guidance and employability skills
- Gingerbread: Supporting single parents through advice, peer networks and advocacy
- Headway – The Brain Injury Association: Supporting an emergency fund that helps individuals and families cope with the immediate practical challenges of brain injury
- LawCare: Delivering sector-wide initiatives to improve wellbeing in the legal profession
- RCJ and Islington Citizens Advice Bureau: Supporting access to justice by providing advice and practical support to individuals facing complex challenges
- Refuge: Supporting survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence
- School-Home Support: Helping disadvantaged children attend school and achieve positive outcomes
- Spinal Injuries Association: Providing mental health support to people affected by spinal cord injury
- St George’s Crypt: Expanding health, wellbeing and recovery programmes
- The Passage 2000: Supporting community services that provide practical help and support to individuals experiencing homelessness
- The Schools Consent Project: Educating young people on consent and the law
- Wellbeing of Women: Funding research, education and advocacy in women’s health.

About
Charity of the Year 2026
Rainbow Trust is Stewarts’ Charity of the Year for 2026. The partnership launched with an initial donation from Stewarts Foundation, alongside a firm-wide 40km challenge in January to mark Rainbow Trust’s 40th anniversary.
More than 80 colleagues took part, raising enough in the first month to fund a Family Support Worker for over a year, supporting up to 25 families at any one time.
The Daniel Turnbull Memorial Scholarship
The Stewarts Foundation has set up an annual scholarship with The University of Law in memory of the firm’s partner Danny Turnbull who died in 2017. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is disabled, as defined under the Equality Act 2010, to undertake the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at any of the University of Law’s campuses.
Grant terms
Grants are typically awarded for three years, subject to annual review by the Trustees. Funding is provided to organisations aligned with the Foundation’s priorities.
